U2 Tickets For the 2009 Tour

The History of the U2 Band

U2 Band

U2 (tickets) was one of the most successful rock bands of the '80s. Known for their sweeping sound as for their outspoken statements about politics and religion, U2 (tickets) were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal. With the 1987 release of “The Joshua Tree” they became touted as superstars. “The Joshua Tree” became the band's first American number one hit and its third straight album to enter the UK charts at number one; in England, it set a record by going platinum within 28 hours. 2005 brings the release of "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb." It has been certified triple-platinum for shipments exceeding 3 million copies. My U2Tickets is your source for U2 concert tickets and all your other entertainment needs, nation-wide.

U2 (tickets) calls Dublin, Ireland home. The band came together with Larry Mullen Jr. (b. Oct. 31, 1961; drums) posted a notice on a high school bulletin board looking for musicians to form a band. Bono (b. Paul Hewson, May 10, 1960; vocals, guitar), the Edge (b. David Evans, August 8, 1961; guitar, keyboards, vocal), Adam Clayton (bass), and Dick Evans responded to the ad and the group formed as a Beatles and Stone cover band called the Feedback, before changing their name to the Hype in 1977. Shortly afterward, Dick Evans left the band. The group changed their name to U2. 2005 brings the release of "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. It has been certified triple-platinum for shipments exceeding 3 million copies.

U2 received a Grammy Awards for the The Joshua Tree in 1988, and have won 22 in total since. U2 is tied with with Stevie Wonder for the most Grammys. These Grammys include Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Duo or Group, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. The British Phonographic Industry awarded U2 seven BRIT Awards, five of these being for Best International Group. In Ireland, U2 have won 14 Meteor Awards. Other awards include a Golden Globe Award, a AMA, two Juno Awards, three NME Awards, ten Q Awards, & four VMAs. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
